FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How far back can you extend my family tree?
It is possible to extend most family trees back to the late 1700s with existing 18th, 19th and 20th century records. Whenever earlier records have survived, it is possible to get some family trees back to the early 1700s and even late 1600s in some cases. We recommend researching back to the early 1800s first, then the likelihood of successfully tracing back further through parish and non-parochial records can be better assessed. Research results depend on a variety of issues such as record availability, locations and time periods being researched, as well as family specific factors.
Caution: Due to the ravages of time, many records have not survived, particularly the earliest ones.
What are your record sources?
We search a wide range of record sources, which may include but are not limited to the following:
• Newspapers & Directories
• Special Manuscripts & Collections
• Vital Records
• Church Records
• Census Records
• Wills & Probate Records
• Government & Town Records
• Land Records
• Court Records
• Military Records
• Cemetery & Burial Records
• Immigration & Naturalization Records
• Ship Passenger Lists
